Don’t Let The Bastards Get You Down

The creative process is a special kind of dance that frequently directs itself…my intention for this Christmas Eve post was to come up with a piece that spoofed Palin’s legendary hunting skills combined with the famously Socialistic Santa and the caribou that Sarah shot for her freezer. Then, yesterday morning I read over at the Mudflats about Roger Ranch and how he perished in a house fire. I never formally met Roger, but we were (social media) “friends” and we were activist-brothers. I thought about Roger all day as I went about my last minute Christmas errands, and so it really shouldn’t have been a surprise (to me) that Roger became Santa in this piece.

Those who are committed to helping bring about change not for fame, or fortune, or praise, but to help the world become a better place for us all are truly the ones whose lives deserve to be celebrated.

Last night in Anchorage there was a memorial for Roger at the Taproot. This is where the taping of the television program “Moore Up North” takes place. Since I don’t live in Anchorage it wasn’t possible for me to be physically present at that gathering, but spiritually I was right there sitting at the bar working on this piece.

I’ll be traveling (outside!) with my family for the next 2 weeks, and so my posting schedule may become irregular, but I’ll do my best. May your Holidays be Happy and whatever you do, don’t let the bastards get you down!
