The Return of the Light

I live where the sky is often obscured, and it’s pretty common to miss being able to view celestial events. The weather report for last night was for cloudy skies with scattered snow showers so we were not actually expecting to be able to see much- if any- of the eclipse. But as the time drew near what clouds there were magically dissipated and we all stood around shivering in 14º f watching the eclipse and the occasional shooting star.  Solstice, and the return of the light and longer days is a very welcome and celebrated event in the northern latitudes and the lunar eclipse  was certainly a spectacular reminder that at this time of year that the light does return. Happy Solstice!
